Thriller Delivers In Parts
U/A – 2 hrs 38 mins
What Is the Film About?
NIA (National Intelligence Agency) chief Sekhar is on a mission to save a stop a terrorist activity. However what he uncovers is far more beyond his grasp and scope. What did he discover? Simultaneously he also has a personal problem to deal. How does he manage both is what the film is all about.
How Is Rajasekahr’s Performance?
Rajasekhar looks aged and uncomfortable in many scenes, but it is his image of “Angry Young Man” that helps him pull off the role. The actor is good in those thrilling sequences which require him to bring forth the image. Apart from that quality which helps in the narrative, there is nothing else from the performance perspective.
How is direction by Praveen Sattaru?
First of all, director Praveen Sattaru should be lauded for attempting different genres. With PSV Garuda Vega, he is dabbling another such previously un-attempted genre in his oeuvre. It is a thriller with secret services backdrop.
The director has unmistakably studied the numerous films of the genre and takes the fundamental blueprint and transports it into the Indian set up. Praveen Sattaru uses every trope of the genre, but the good thing is it works. It also makes the movie highly predictable to those who are frequent watchers of the spy-centric film. PSV Garuda Vega is a basic spy movie with all the clichés and topes in place. But when done in a Telugu cinema set up without hero it gives us a fresh feeling which is the plus point.
Both the first and second halves of the film stick to the narrative and don’t deviate too much. The respite is provided by the comedy track of husband and wife. It tends to drag a bit but is alright. Another major problem with the movie is the scale of it. The visuals onscreen suggest with better production values this could have been a more visual ride as well. Unfortunately, that director is shortchanged on that account. Despite the best efforts to show grandeur, the obvious lack is apparent in the action blocks.
Overall, PSV Garuda Vega is a standard fare spy thriller done right. The spectacular imagery and visuals are missing, but the relentless pace makes up for it. Praveen Sattaru’s mission is a success.
Pooja Kumar, Shraddha and Others?
Pooja Kumar had a very irritating role and limited in scope. She is alright in what she gets. The rest of the film comprises of well-known artists and faces like Posani Krishna Murali, Nassar, Sayaji Shinde, etc. in small roles playing different pieces of the overall narrative. They all are decent, but none have significant parts to have an impact.
Music and Other Departments?
Music is mostly background score, and it is fantastic. The cinematography is below par for the subject. Editing is neat. Dialogues are okay. Production values could have been better, although it is understandable.
The entertainment element could have been better integrated into the narrative. The marital track could have been replaced with something more exciting.
